Abstract:

Two clinicians from two different disciplines and two different cultures will describe the preventive and therapeutic value of laughter and humor both physiologically and psychologically. The universal theories for the function of humor will be discussed. Strategies and techniques that can be used to combine humor with hypnosis in both a medical and a dental practice will be presented. The beneficence of mirth in our own self-care will also be addressed. Participatory laughter will be encouraged.

Linda, a nurse practitioner, author and speaker, is a past president of ASCH. She has taught workshops across the USA and around the world and has published on the beneficence of laughter.
Michael is a dental surgeon who is anxious to help host the next ESH Congress in his hometown of Glasgow, Scotland. He is a James Braid historian and impersonator and is adept at using chair side humor to help his patients feel at ease.
